JOHN HENRY RYAN
Using S4 mixing headphones
"The S4 is incredibly light, comfortable and reliable. I strongly believe that live mixing should be done through the PA system, and not with headphones, but I am finding the S4 to be incredibly close to what I’m hearing through the main system."
Started touching faders in the late 70’s, at home and in clubs for local bands. This hobby became my career, first as FOH engineer for Italian pop star Pino Daniele, then on monitors for Edoardo Bennato. In 1980 I enrolled at the Recording Workshop in Ohio, graduating with a 99.9 average. In 1982 I was hired as resident studio engineer at Executive Studios in Napoli, Italy, where I recorded and mixed movie score, orchestras and albums for musicians and artists, some of whom I would have worked with live. In 1991 I returned to live mixing and touring for artists such as Eduardo DeCrescenzo, Eugenio Bennato, Enzo Avitabile, Gino Paoli, Giorgia (just to name a few), then Michele Zarrillo and Gigi Dalessio, with whom I toured for 5 years. Meanwhile, I was added to Nile Rodgers & CHIC’s production team, which soon brought me to leave the Italian scene, since CHIC had become my full time gig, including managing the band’s technical production aspects. At the end of 2018, I resigned from CHIC, returning to my present freelance career.
