Sie Medway-Smith is a London-based producer, mixer, musical director and educator whose career spans more than three decades at the highest level of music production. Beginning at Milo Studios in Hackney at the age of nineteen, he has built a reputation for combining technical precision with a deep understanding of musicality, helping artists realise records that are both sonically distinctive and emotionally engaging.

Throughout his career, Sie has worked across an exceptionally broad range of contemporary music, collaborating with artists including Björk, Massive Attack, Depeche Mode, U2, Arca, UNKLE, Tricky, Goldfrapp, David Guetta, Roy Ayers, Rudimental, Rita Ora, Vince Clarke, Erasure, Gang of Four, Dave Gahan, Martin Gore and many more. His work has earned nominations associated with the Mercury Prize, BRIT Awards and MOBO Awards, alongside a personal nomination for the Music Producers Guild Mix Engineer of the Year.

Producer & Mixer

As both producer and mix engineer, Sie approaches every project with the belief that technology should always serve the music. Whether working entirely in the box or through vintage analogue consoles and tape machines, his focus remains the same: clarity, emotion, depth and translation. His experience spans recording, production, mixing and mastering across independent releases, major labels, film, television and live performance.

Alongside commercial projects, Sie continues to develop his own artistic practice through experimental electronic music, field recording and site-specific recording projects. Recent works include Between the Islands, created in collaboration with the world-renowned taiko ensemble Kōdō in Japan, Forestry Commission, an ongoing collaboration with Dutch producer Andert Tysma, and Flying Faders, a series exploring environment, memory and the relationship between place and sound.

Musical Director

As Musical Director, Sie has overseen live productions for international artists, bridging the gap between studio production and performance. His work combines programming, arrangement, rehearsal direction and technical preparation, ensuring that complex productions translate naturally to the stage while retaining the character and detail of the original recordings.

Alongside his production work, Sie is the founder of The Music Production Academy, where he teaches production, mixing and creative practice through mentoring, workshops and the MPA Experimental Series, helping the next generation of producers develop both technical skills and their own artistic voice.
