Headphone Problems You Can Prevent:

The problem:

Constant bending, pulling, or yanking on the cable can cause internal wires to snap or solder joints to weaken. Over time, you might hear one side cutting out or crackling noises when you move the cable.

How to avoid it:

  • Always unplug by holding the connector, not the cable itself
  • Avoid sharp bends and knots in the wire.
  • Detach the cable, coil and store it separately when not in use.

The problem:

Sweat, skin oils, and friction gradually wear down the padding and covering. Over time, this can affect comfort and even change how your headphones sound.

How to avoid it:

  • Wipe earpads with a dry or slightly damp soft cloth after use.
  • Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Replace earpads when they start to feel flat, hard, or flaky.
  • We recommend replacing earpads after about 1000 hrs of use. You can watch a video about earpads here: https://youtu.be/T3WoDuVI1DY?feature=shared

The problem:

Playing music at excessively high volumes, letting moisture in (sweat, rain, accidental spills), or pressing the earcups flat against a surface can damage the delicate driver components. This pressure can deform the diaphragm or misalign parts inside, permanently affecting the sound.

How to avoid it:

  • Keep listening volumes at safe levels.
  • Avoid using headphones in heavy rain or near liquids.
  • Never press or store headphones with the earcups pushed flat against a hard surface.
  • If they do get wet, let them air dry completely before use.

The problem:

Dirt, dust, or bent plugs can cause poor signal transmission. A loose fit or crackling sound when moving the connector is a sign something’s wrong.

How to avoid it:

  • Keep connectors clean - use a dry cloth to wipe them occasionally.
  • Avoid forcing plugs into ports.
  • Store your gear so connectors aren’t under pressure or weight.

The problem:

Dropping your headphones, tossing them in a bag without protection, or stretching them too far can weaken the headband or damage the hinges.

How to avoid it:

  • Store headphones in a case or hang them on a stand when not in use.
  • Avoid twisting or overstretching the headband.
  • If you travel with them, pack them in a padded bag or official OLLO hard case.
